1/8 MILE RUNS
In Hungary dragracing is mostly over 1/8 mile, mostly because of the lack of suitable tracks.
Racing is more open this way, distance lost during a bad launch are harder to recover.

Click on the small chart to see them in bigger, with options to change rollout, tune it virtually, etc...

Brutal. I like this word in general, but it fits this RWD mid engine conversion Corsa nicely.
It has a 2 liter GSI engine with nitrous injection.

Last year the same engine in a FWD Kadett chassis did a personal best of 12.6 @ 183 km/h.

We were lucky enough to log its best time of the day, getting an 11.996. Nice.
But as there are huge gaps between gears, there is still room for improvement. :)

Another fast Audi. I'm sure we will see some very nice results from this car next year.
This run, officially timed 12.2 @ 191 km/h, was his best during the two day racing event, which was held together with the King of Europe.
The chart shows that this was far from an ideal run. In first there was not enough power to keep the tires spinning, and it the later gear there's quite a bit of turbo log. But it has some very nice peak power figure already.

It's a strong and fast, street legal Lancer Evo IX. It has TD0520G turbo, bigger camshaft, opened sport exhaust, forged pistons and rods, modded stock Ecu, bigger injectors for the etanol fuel and a lot of parts more. In the fifth gear the car can 400 horsepower on the wheels, what is quite remarkable. Unfortunately in this run the start was not good, but everything else was well. The shifts was very fast. In another run it can better 0-100km/h result, what was under 4 sec (3,97 sec), but unfortunately the driver can't push full throttle to the end of the run.

Sandor Vogelsinger's street Civic this time running on his racecar's wheel and tire combo.
The figures improved a lot thanks to the much higher traction, while power levels remained around the same. If we compare the two logs from a 65 km/h rolling start to 200 km/h, there is not much difference between them, just a few centimeters.

Tököl, 2005.08.06.

Quite a good launch, and the car has gained more than 80 hp since we last logged. Unfortunately we couldn't match the car's previous best which was set about a month ago (12.3) but it still pulled a respectable 12.6 Q/M. If you select 6" effective rollout below the chart, it matches the official results nicely.
It was a nice, clean run apart from the short misfires noticable at around 8 seconds, just before shifting up to 4th gear, and about 40 meters before the finish.

Last year we could only log this car in slight rain, so it's no wonder that now on the dry tarmac the launch is much better. While the car improved on every measured point and figure, comparing with the previous run in a rolling start virtual race it's clear that it did not get any more powerful. Still, it's pretty fast for an everyday car, and by the way, it goes around the Hungaroring in 2:09.4!

Tököl, 2008.04.13.

Croatia's fastest FWD car. Built on a far from ideal platform, it's quite a heavy car, I was told it was 1350kg during this run (including the driver). If that weight is true, it's very powerful. Moreover, it's very powerful, even if it's much lighter. He was spraying a little nitrous too, in 3rd gear. This was Tomislav's best run of the day, officially timed n 11.78 @ 212 km/h, which is matched pretty close by this log, if rollout is set to 15".
It was interesting to note the intercooler (it can be seen on one of the photos) which had a very small frontal area, but the engine still produced very good power. Unfortunately the two driveshafts broke during the race weekend, on in the semi finals, dropping him out from a possible final. These broken driveshafts are interesting, because the M/T ET Street tires didn't provide too much grip. But his gearshifts are very impressive, these are very very rapid changes!
The first shift from 1st to 2nd seems a bit long, but it was caused by hitting the rev limiter before the shift.
Either he has a special gearbox or he is very clever.
Anyway, it's a very good package. But in a lighter chassis it would be even more sensational.

Tököl, 2006.10.22.

Everything is wrong in this run, yet the numbers are still impressive. The winter tires found so much grip on Tokol Airfield's concrete surface that the car bogged down quite badly, revs dropped back to 2500.
And of course the big turbo doesn't work so low down on this 2 liter 4pot. Second gear is alright, it's over in just 1.5 seconds, but third gear is terrible. Not only there's a huge 1.5 second turbo lag, but the power drops heavily after 150 km/h (93mph). In fact it looses more than 100 WHP! At this point it's unknown why, perhaps it's just an bad Motec map, or a mistimed cam. Anyhow, it's very spectacular than in fourth gear it pulls harder than just before the gearshift.

If they manage to fix the problems, it's a promising project, I'm sure it will improve a lot next year.

We also made an incar video of this run, which is quite spectacular despite the problems. It will be included in Race-report video.
