1/8 MILE RUNS
In Hungary dragracing is mostly over 1/8 mile, mostly because of the lack of suitable tracks.
Racing is more open this way, distance lost during a bad launch are harder to recover.

Kiskunlacháza, 2008.06.14.

A 2002 model, stock engine and turbo, with chipped ECU (including launch control), full HKS exhaust and K&N filter.
We logged two runs, but were hindered by misshifts. In this one 4->5 was taking more than a second, in the other one 2->3 was the problematic.
The rule, -the later you make the mistake, the better- worked, this run, officially timed 12.84 @ 165 was only two tenths slower than his best run of the day.
Considering that until the 1000' mark the timeslips don't show a real difference, it's clear that this misshift cost 0.15 seconds and pretty much trap speed, too.

2005.10.14.

Since the first log new 850 cc injectors were installed along with a matching chip, which turned out to be not that well matched... Torque was increased, but max power stayed where it was, so the driving technique was adapted to suit, the shifts come earlier.

Tököl, 2007.10.28.

All wheel drive, nitro assisted PD TDI from Slovakia. This run is not one of his bests, it was timed officially 12.42 @ 183, while he could do 12.004 @ 185 too on the same day. It's quite easy to spot where did he lost the four tenths, but it's not so obvious what has caused this. I'd say he shifted into wrong gear, then corrected afterwards, but perhaps not. I'll ask next year when we log the car again. :)
The car is quite heavy, but very powerful for a diesel. Their power claims on photo #3 is certainly confirmed by the wheel power figures of this run. The 0-100 km/h times are another matter, being around a whole second out. Obviously this 4.7 could be much better without the mistake around the 2.0-3.0 second range, a 3.8, 3.9 is certainly possible.

Tököl, 2008.04.12.

It's the 2002 model with 456 HP for a weight of 1440kg. On paper.
During this log there were two people on board.
The official timeslip shows 12.19 @ 195 km/h, this is matched very closely by this run if the rollout is set to 12". Now it proves there is something not adding up.
Wheelpower figures suggest a powertrain loss of around 30 HP only. Now, either Porsche makes extremely efficient gearboxes or, -more likely- the car is more powerful than on paper.
This run wasn't perfect, the car managed a best of 11.92 later on the day. The problem is the launch, it's too cautious. Of course it gets much better as it starts to roll. The peak 0.9g is an amazing figure for street tires. Of course rear engine, rear wheel drive combo helps, as well as the 315mm wide tires.
A small amount is left from the original 930 turbo, but it's not a problem at all. The power curve is interesting too, especially noticable in 3rd. Probably some kind of overboost after each gearchange.

Tököl, 2008.04.13.

Kuki's 1991 Civic with a bored K20 engine. (2.1 liter)
14:1 compression ratio, 54mm throttle bodies, a pair of wild cams and all the ingredients for a fast all motor. The fuel system had problems, which hindered Kuki's racing in the King of Europe East's stock street (12.00s index) category. He was racing for the 3rd place in the finals, where the engine stopped, and while it was repaired rapidly letting him stay in contention, it had it's effect on his mind, and he messed up his first gear change. Too bad.
Let's see this run. First thing is quite obvious, that he was sandbagging to ensure him staying out of the 11 second zone. He didn't shift into 4th, instead let the car slow down and even braked slightly while still 60 meters for the finish line.
This was his second best attempt in Sunday's qualifications, officially timed int 12.2 @ 180 km/h. This is matched pretty good by our log, if rollout is set to 15".
In Saturday's free practice his best was 12.04 @ 194, so he was a bit overcautious in this run.
Anyway, it's a very good result for a naturally aspirated four pot. Power and tractions relation is ideal, acceleration in 2nd gear starts on the traction limit, but the wheels doesn't spin.
Also noticable on the log, that he hit the limiter in 2nd before the gearshift, a few hundreds were lost here.

Tököl, 2006.09.23.

Yes, it's a East German Barkas. Unlike the original's 3 pot 1000 cc two-stroke engine this one is powered by a 5.7 liter Chevy V8. The vehicle was built on a modified Corvette subframe, now it's mid engined with an automatic transmission driving the rear ET streets.
This was the Barkas' 3rd ever quarter mile, btw.
The launch is quite ok, on unprepped tarmac it's around the maximum one can reach with tires this size. The transmission is quite ill, the gearchanges results in huge pikes in acceleration, you can ever hear the tires sqeaking for a bit on the video during the change into 2nd.

Stock bottom end, but modified, GT30 based hybrid turbo chipped ECU.
Officially this run was timed 12.516 @ 178 km/h, so it seems he staged a bit too deep. With this log's rollout set to 8" the figures match quite closely. (Remember that official trap speed figures are the last 66 feet's average, while we publish exact speeds at the finish line.)
Looking at the 0" rollout view, it's clear that the launch was very soft, mainly to save the transmission. Peak acceleration figures are good, altough I'm not sure what tires the car was on. (He sometimes uses semi slicks)
The biggest mistake during the run is that the driver hits the limiter in all gears before the upshifts, loosing precious time.
Power output and the curve is nice. There's no significant drop even right before the limiter.

Tököl, 2007.05.27.

Slovenia's fastest Civic, at least the fastest naturally aspirated. It has a tuned 2 liter B20 engine from the American CRV. We have logged an Integra before with a similar engine, but this Civic is another league.
During the day at Tököl he improved his personal best to 12.22 @ 186 km/h! That's nothing sort of amazing considering the ordinary, unprepped concrete track!
This run was a moderate 12.44 @ 184, this time matched closely by our log if rollout is set to 12".
About the run:
Until the 60' point the car runs launch control, limiting revs at a certain point to control wheelspin. I suspect this program can be improved further, as maximum traction was achieved when the limiter finished its job at the 60 feet point. I guess having such a long first gear (beyond 100 km/h) calls for some sort of help.
Grip was okay, but not spectacular, so the 4.5 sec 0-100km/h time is really fantastic.
It seems that the gearing is almost perfect, finishing in 3rd gear, near max revs. You can notice that the power curve is actually starts to decline at around 350 meters. Superb.
He didn't spare the car, ran no fewer than 12 qualifying runs, without mistake, each being faster than 12.6. He deserved the category win (A5) Bravo!

This Fiat is a newcomer to the dragracing.hu race series, and he started with winning straight away. It also set new ET and trap speed records in its class.
The car is very light, 750 without driver, but at least it has a rollcage. Compared to the other blue Punto, it's obvious that powerwise there not much difference between the two, the performance advantage comes from the 200kg weight saving. That's a lot. And it's worth it.
We were lucky enough to log the best run, it was officially timed 12.38 @ 188, which is matched very closely by this log, if rollout is set to 12".
