1/8 MILE RUNS
In Hungary dragracing is mostly over 1/8 mile, mostly because of the lack of suitable tracks.
Racing is more open this way, distance lost during a bad launch are harder to recover.

Click on the small chart to see them in bigger, with options to change rollout, tune it virtually, etc...

Rábaring, 2005.04.17.

It was already quite fast last year, but so far in this season, it's clearly the fastest FWD car racing in Hungary. By a long way. It has significantly more power now and also he's now sporting BF Goodrich Drag Radials. They work wonders on the crap surface of the Rabaring, almost 0.7g!

Honda CRX 1.6 16v

Kiskunlacháza, 2006.08.19.

Another very fast 1.6 16v Honda, just as awfully loud and even faster than the Civic, it's quite interesting to compare them in virtual racing.
On the CRX the first gear so tall, it goes beyond 80 km/h, quite amazing. Of course it need lots of revs for that, the soon coming video will show the tacho quite clearly.
The launch is very good, and while in another run the g-curve stayed near 0.7 for a bit longer, that run also resulted in exactly same ET. (13.023 officially timed with the beams)
The first gearchange is too cautious, but from 2nd to 3rd it's fast & brutal, hence the spike in the g and HP curves.

Even though it weights more than 2 tons, it has the power to match it. A luxury way to do an 8 second 1/8 mile. The anti slip system was engaged during the run, without it the car was about 2 tenths slower.
The run was done on winter tires.

Another turbocharged E30 BMW.
It has the same engine displacement as the E30 M3 we logged earlier. This one is a bit faster mainly thanks to the lower weight.
The engine came from an early 80s E23 745i. This was the last turbocharged BMW petrol engine in a street car. As standard it pushed out around 250 HP, but this car had about twice the boost pressure...

The car was also on a rolling road, where it put out 324 HP at the flywheel, and had a maximum torque of 530 Nm. (around 390 lbft)

Tököl, 2007.04.08.

Far from stock, it sports a Garrett GT28RS turbo. This is the fastest 1.8 T 20V we have logged so far.
Of course with the inferior Haldex all wheel drive system it can't match the real quattros, but it can pull some very high Gs. As soon as it reaches 1g the engine output power is already as high as it would go in higher gears. So first gear is a little bit longer than what would be ideal with this sort of power.
In 2nd gear there's notable lag, which is also present in higher gears, but it's much less prominent.

Tököl, 2008.05.31.

Those regular race visitors in Hungary could see this car with many different engines over the years.
The project started with an old 2 liter engine, then it got turbocharged, then came a 3.5 liter engine and now it's got a 5 liter 12 cylinder M70 engine!
In the beginning the car struggled to run below 17s, there were even a few races where sub 20 second runs seemed unreacheable. But now it's running 12s back to back. Officily this run was timed at 12.87 @ 183 km/h, which is pretty close to the intrument based log you see here, if you set the rollout to 12".
The launch is not too nice, but considering the rear suspension and tires, it's not a big wonder. But from 2nd gear onwards it goes quite well.

2006.08.11.

An AWD Sierra, tuned both optically and power-wise.
The launch is quite strong, altough it was slipping the clutch quite much, as you can hear on the video.
Turbo lag is huge, it takes about a second after each gearchange to start pulling strong.
