1/8 MILE RUNS
In Hungary dragracing is mostly over 1/8 mile, mostly because of the lack of suitable tracks.
Racing is more open this way, distance lost during a bad launch are harder to recover.

Despite the alloy chassis, the car is very heavy. The quite poor launch is partly attributed to this. As soon as the clutch grips fully, the revs drop, and there's not enough power to move the weight fast. Maybe a clutchkiller slip would help to do a better ET, but not many times before clutch wear will prevent hard launch, so we didn't try it.
The quite linear torque is apparent in 2nd gear, as the acceleration is quite level throughout the rev range.
The car just about reach the 1/4 mile finish line in 3rd gear, having hit the limiter about 60 feet beforehand.

2008.10.02.

2004 chipped 330Cd, but otherwise it has an unmolested engine. M suspension, 18" wheels,
no LSD. It's much more powerful than the standard car, almost 100 HP more! (Stock is 204 HP at the flywheel) The ET and trap figures are impressive too. On a racetrack this would have been faster than his PB of 14.21 @ 164 km/h. The power curve shows the tipical signs of small stock turbo hitting its limit: The higher the revs, the less the power, it's a falling curve. But it falls from very high starting point...

This was a proper power start. Standing on the brakes while applying throttle to spin up the smaller turbo. This way the launch is significantly better. (Comparison coming soon)
The 6speed automatic gearbox does it work quite noticably. There are huge holes in acceleration, very much unlike the amercian auto boxes.
Perhaps it's a design feature, so you can feel the sport setting's effect.

We logged this car on ordinaty tarmac, so the good traction is the result of running on Toyo R888 tires and the factory LSD. The huge g peaks after each gearchange is also caused by these.

It's quite a good launch, considering the cheap tires and the cold tarmac. The car got lighter partly thanks to the radiator moved to the back, behind the engine. Speaking of the engine it had ignition problems during this run.
(We took the log in strong tail wind)
