1/8 MILE RUNS
In Hungary dragracing is mostly over 1/8 mile, mostly because of the lack of suitable tracks.
Racing is more open this way, distance lost during a bad launch are harder to recover.

2009.08.09.

Stock engine with a K04 hybrid turbocharger, 1.2bar max boost, 2.25" exhaust system. During the run the car was on winter tires. They didn't work too well, traction was average at best. A little bit of wheelspin is noticable in 2nd gear too. The upshifts are quite fast, the only place to improve the time is in the launch. Or with more power, of couse.

2005.08.19.

The engine got stronger, the launch got worse. The tires were absolutely useless for the job. Because of the short gearing, the best run out of 4 attempts was with starting in 2nd gear.

2005.11.23.

We logged on quite bad terrain, far from ideal.
Still, the most interesting part is quite clear.
In 2nd gear at around 5.5 seconds there is a sudden jump in the power curve. This is caused by the cam change. It seems the Toyota version is a lot less smoother than the Honda vtec system.
Being a passanger in the car, I can tell you it feels like a small nitrous shot!
(There's nothing at 7 seconds it was just a bump.)
Nothing short of amazing!

2005.01.05.

For a short time in 1st gear it almost stalled, but was able to recover well enough. This wasn't the only nor the main problem, though. It was misfiring badly at higher revs, as you can see the acceleration and power curves drop a bit at 9 sec.
The config is interesting, it has the Lancia Delta 1.6 HF turbo IE engine management and injection system instead of the original equipment.

2005.10.12.

Another typical VTI launch. Acceleration is increasing until the bite point at 2.5 seconds, when the tires find grip and that's it. The gearchange from 2nd to 3rd could be faster, but otherwise it's a nice clean run.

2008.05.15.

A 2002 model with 2 liter turbo engine. It's been heavily modified following the license from Maptun. Forged pistons, rods, GT28 turbo, and ECU modified to suit. And all this is hidden until the loud pedal is floored. But then it shows, quite clearly. The power curve is quite peaky (must see 1/4 mile view), but it's exxagerated here, because all the gearshift were premature. Of course with powerful FWD cars it's always tricky to know when to shift, because as soon it comes on boost, the tires start spinning, revlimiter starts to work. The natural reaction is to shift up. As the driver's focus is not drag racing, it's not a mistake he should be worried about.

2008.12.13.

Originally a 75HP 1.4 SOHC Civic with a Greddy turbo kit, running 7psi (0.5bar) boost.
Other than the kit and the ESI intake manifold and throttle body the engine is bone stock.
The ECU is modified so it's mapped properly and running full sequential injection instead of the original banked.
There were not much traction, so the ET figures fall behind most of the VTIs on the list, but trap speed wise it matches them. Peak power is a bit lower than the the high revving v-tec engine's, but the turbo's low down torque is "killer".
