1/8 MILE RUNS
In Hungary dragracing is mostly over 1/8 mile, mostly because of the lack of suitable tracks.
Racing is more open this way, distance lost during a bad launch are harder to recover.

The interesting in this log is that the 60 feet figure is worse than the previous log, but the 1/8 and 1/4 mile figures are significantly better. Of couse a bit of the improvement comes from power, but it's worth checking out the virtual race between the two runs.
The turning point is just after the 3 second mark. (the yellow line crossing base line)
While this was a better start that the older log's, it's still quite faint. Also a good 0-100 km/h time was hindered by shifting up a wee bit early, at 99.5 km/h.
If we could took another log, we should have been able to improve, but idle control was going bananas, so we couldn't.

Different car, different engine, different gearbox and still it goes almost exactly like the diesel 156 we featured yesterday. :) In virtual racing there is less than 1 meter in between them!
Quite bad traction in the first 3 seconds, after that point the engine is not powerful enough to keep the tires spinning.

The GTV6 is a rarity, and this example even has a modern 3.2 liter 24v engine from the 156 GTA.
This log shows that rear wheel drive does not guarantee good traction. Not even the transaxle gearbox help in this case.

It made two almost identical runs. The g curve is nice at the start. It could start from a higher point, but the curve itself is nice. Power almost held out until the shifting point, but the gears are really low, 70 mph is already in 4th gear!

This time we logged the car on special Avon rubber. (not slicks) They were quite worn, but they still knew their jobs... :) The launch is much better, the improvement in the ET comes from that alone, the power is about the same as last year. Well, perhaps a few horses more.

Kiskunlacháza, 2006.08.20.

We logged a bunch of Alfa Romeos at the annual drag race of the Hungarian Alfa Romeo Club. This was one of the prettiest, but certainly not the fastest around. After 1 second of good acceleration the driver lifted off a bit, and apart from a brief spike didn't pull fast again. Still, the power saves the face and manages a 10 over the 1/8 mile. No 1/4 mile data as he lifted off before the finish line.

Since last year the car received some headwork, some porting and the usual three angle valve job.
The launch's silhouette stayed the same, altough traction was a little bit better now. It's most certainly only caused by the differenct tarmac, as we have logged last year in a different place.

It has automatic transmission, but it was a careful "launch", certainly not a powerstart. Proper acceleration was only for half a second in 1st gear.
Considering its huge weight, the car's performance is not bad at all.
