| Yes, it's a East German Barkas. Unlike the original's 3 pot 1000 cc two-stroke engine this one is powered by a 5.7 liter Chevy V8. The vehicle was built on a modified Corvette subframe, now it's mid engined with an automatic transmission driving the rear ET streets. This was the Barkas' 3rd ever quarter mile, btw. The launch is quite ok, on unprepped tarmac it's around the maximum one can reach with tires this size. The transmission is quite ill, the gearchanges results in huge pikes in acceleration, you can ever hear the tires sqeaking for a bit on the video during the change into 2nd. |
